Denzel Washington has started a meaningful new chapter in his life. At 69, the famous actor has been baptised and received his minister’s license. The special event took place at Kelly Temple in New York City, where Archbishop Christopher Bryant performed the baptism on Saturday.

“It took some time, but I’m finally here. If God can do this for me, He can do it for you,” Washington shared during the ceremony, according to Bryant. “The sky truly is the limit.”

Archbishop Bryant posted photos of the event on Facebook, showing the moment Washington dedicated himself to Christ.

“We welcome Minister Denzel Washington into the clergy, as he received his minister’s license in the Church of God in Christ today. It was a powerful and uplifting moment,” Bryant wrote in his post.

Bryant also explained the significance of the day. “He is dressed like that because he was baptised and licensed as a minister during the same service. This all happened at the Historic Kelly Temple in NYC, a place very special to him. Denzel grew up attending this church and shared that he was filled with the Holy Spirit after visiting another church with actor Robert Townsend in the 1980s.”

In another Facebook post, Bryant described Washington’s recent step of faith as “inspiring.” He said, “Denzel’s baptism and decision to become a minister show his deep commitment to faith and service.”

Washington has often talked about the challenges of speaking openly about religion in the entertainment industry. In an interview with Esquire, he said, “When you see me, you see what I’ve done with the gifts my Lord and Saviour gave me. I’m not afraid.”

He added, “I don’t care what people think. Talking about faith isn’t common here. You can’t talk like this and win Oscars. But I’m free now. Hollywood doesn’t really talk about faith; it’s not popular. But that doesn’t mean people here don’t believe.”

The actor admitted he’s unsure how many other actors share his faith. “It’s not like we have meetings about it. I don’t know how many actors believe in God. I’ve never done a survey or been to a ‘Church Actor Meeting.’”

Denzel Washington has had a legendary career, starting with his role in the TV show St. Elsewhere in 1982. He’s known for movies like Training Day, Fences, The Book of Eli, Cry Freedom, and Malcolm X.

This new milestone highlights Washington’s growing dedication to his faith, showing how his spiritual journey continues to influence his life and career.
