Eguavoen Urges Quick Appointment of Super Eagles Foreign Coach

Published

Augustine Eguavoen, Technical Director of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), has called for quick action on hiring a foreign coach for the Super Eagles.

Eguavoen, who helped the Super Eagles qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in November, believes the NFF should act fast in appointing a new coach ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

He emphasized the need to bring in the new coach early to ensure they have enough time to settle in, plan, and discuss strategies for the World Cup qualifiers.

“March is just around the corner. We need to act quickly. The coach should come in as soon as possible, so we can talk, share ideas, and prepare for what’s next,” Eguavoen said in an interview with Kennis FM.

Eguavoen also expressed his preference for a local coach to handle the World Cup qualifiers.

“We should consider a local coach because we understand the situation here, and we feel the pulse of the people. However, the technical team should be expanded,” he added.
